Summary on strategies

It is a lengthy book with a lot of information on strategies. I have used some of them based on the current market conditions and my requirements. I include some that I believe they have values to some. Forget everything you’ve learned here and elsewhere on strategies and use your common sense to see whether the following make sense to you.

·         Evaluate your requirement and select the strategy or strategies. Paper test them thoroughly.

·         Need to check recent performances of your screens. There are no evergreen strategies I know of. This is why most gurus fail in 2015 (and so far in the first part of 2016) as the market changes.

·         Stick with my three-step process: Market Timing, Screen Stocks and Evaluate Stocks.

When the market is risky, do not buy stocks. “Strategy” is the first part of Screen Stocks and the second part is when and why to sell stocks.

Some strategies perform better for holding stocks short term (3 months or less), while some especially those based on value perform better on holding stocks long term (12 months or longer).

Some strategies perform better in specific stage of a market cycle.

This is one page of the 810 pages of my book "Complete the Art of Investing". If it helps you, envision how 810 pages will help you.

For more of my reasoning, check out the book described next. It has 810 pages (6*9) for $9.99. It could be the best $10 you ever spend.

The above is an abstract from my book "Complete the Art of Investing" which is available from Amazon.

I challenged to have the best-performed article in Seeking Alpha history, an investing site, for recommending 5 or more stocks in one year after the publish date. The concepts for that article are discussed in this book.

Staples, politicians...

* If they asked me (nicely with some free staples), I would tell you that the Staples merger will not be materialized . It is a monopoly in the making. I unloaded my Staples stock when their biggest investment in China failed and many of my daughter's co-workers got laid off (insider info?).

One reason they failed in China is not accepting local custom. You cannot sell chairs fitted for the 300 lb American in China.

* At one time we're afraid of a strong USD, and now it is the other way.

* A politician cannot say what's right to the wrong audience. In this case, the audience is the coal miners and their daughters.

* I bought OIL in Jan. when oil barrel was $30 and now it is about $45. However, my stock OIL is up only by 5% (should be 50%). Any reason?

Immigrants: An asset or a liability?

There are many rebates. I add mine here.

The major problem is how the Christians can peacefully co-exist with Muslims. From history to today, it is not that good. Many EU countries found out the hard way. How many terrorist attacks are caused by these migrants?

It seems to be a perfect match with younger migrants and the aging population in developed countries. They have to measure the risks and benefits. Japan has not imported a lot of migrants and they're doing fine with the factories in foreign soils. Many robots would drive less dependency on cheap labor in 5 years if not already. Will cheap labor in the future be an asset or a liability? There are many migrants looking for welfare office on the first day of arrival. I believe it used to be 3 years before they can apply. Hope some would shed some light on this.

---
On a separate post:

* We have to divide them into legal and illegal. The legal would just collect welfare as it is far easy. I only blame our generous welfare system as laziness is a human nature. Would you take a job that means you would have to lose the free health care (in Mass.)?

* The illegals do not have this option but they can go to the emergency room free of charge.

* The legals can bring their families here and the elderly can collect a good supplementary social security (even if they have not worked here for a day), housing subsidy, food stamp, free medical care...I'm sure most are not criminals and rapists as Trump assumed but economical refugees.

Our welfare system has been burdened. Last year I paid far more taxes than during my work life. The rich just exit the land of opportunities. Most writers on this topic live in the cave for the last 10 years. I know many of them personally. The parasites will die when the host dies.

OIL & product quality

* Investing is a guessing game: sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I recommended to buy OIL in Jan. at less than $30 and now it is $45. Just luck with some unexpected events. But, I look for long term (i.e. 2 years away). I wonder how many followed my advice. If you do, send my part of the loots to my secret retirement fund. LOL.

* Germany's goods are of high quality and last forever. It helps the environment. The exception is cars. It is too complex and hard and expensive to maintain.

* I do not have too much luck with Honda. A $5 part (ignition solenoid) can fix the defect without giving me all the trouble and the reputation of the company. They have to fix it any way and I do not know why they give me all kinds of excuses. At last I had to yell at the service manager: It is YOUR problem, not mine. They told me it was a COMMON problem. Give me back my money even they have fixed it!!!!! A waste of my time!!!!

On today's financial news

* 5% unemployment is full employment except the median salary still below 2007's. I expect the interest hike will be .5% for the entire year, so it is a drop in the bucket.

* How much we lose when we will switch a good size of the government due to a different party taking over. They will not impact the unemployment rate as they will find jobs from corporations they gave favor to. Otherwise, no employer will hire these lazy (most are) government employees working with tiny work hours. Corruption, American style.

* My hat as an investor is up when the oil price is up. My hat for humanity is down for Canada.

* Japan is playing the game of "a friend of the enemy" and "a friend of the friend of an enemy"... I got confused.

* Corporation is doing the same. The gang of n led by SAP is against Oracle. Oracle can ask the government to put tariff on SAP's products. That's why SAP acquired Sybase.

* VRX lost the bet leaving the investors almost broke included the hedge fund manager scratching his beautiful head.* Does the taxi industry include UBER (typo?)?

* DISH and the two smaller mobiles do not have a chance. They're too small to compete with the big boys.

* SPACE brings a lot of joy and jobs to the US. We depended on the shuttle project too much. We did not have an exit strategy or did not diversify. They cannot as they need to paint a rosy picture on the project - have been repeated almost for all new projects. Actually today the cheapest and most reliable vehicle is Chinese rockets. Chinese learned (or stole) our technology.

Complete the Art of Investing

Hello!

The book “Complete the Art of Investing” is the best and the most cost effective way to improve your investing skills for both beginners and experienced investors.

The Kindle version has over 800 pages (6*9) covering most topics in investing. It is about the size of 3 books for $9.99. It combines my personal experiences for decades and over 100 books I read. I include those strategies that work in today’s market and my bitter lessons on losses.

The printed version has over 500 pages and you should be eligible for the Kindle version free of charge (check Amazon’s current policy). It is priced at $24.95. It is technical challenging and not economically to bind 800 pages of quality paper. However, the first few books are in the entirety and the important chapters are included in the rest of the books.  Eliminate shipping cost by ordering more items with this heavy book.

I have just gone thru the proof reading and I will not have many changes. Actually in the future I may take out some articles on Sector Rotation, my other best seller. There will be no sales promotion in this book as it is already a huge bargain.

If you’re still not convinced, try out my Seeking Alpha articles and some of my articles in my blog listed below.
·         Recommended to sell Apple at $132 in Feb., 2015. I recommended buy it at $57 in my book Scoring Stocks in May, 2013.

·         Recommended to sell Buffett’s funds in August, 2014 (actually at least one year earlier).

·         Recommended OIL at around $30 in Jan., 2016.

·         Recommended actions on a side way market in 2015 and predicted politics for 2016.
http://tonyp4idea.blogspot.com/2016/01/investing-politics.html

·         Challenge the best performance for all Seeking Alpha articles after one year of the publish date for recommending more than 5 stocks. So far no challenge.

Best,
Tony Pow, the author.
