Did you advise your son to buy a new car or a used one? Buying a used car and driving it as long as possible could save thousands of dollars compounded over a long time. I would recommend him to listen to this podcast episode from ChooseFI. http://www.choosefi.com/022-true-cost-car-ownership/

He has been driving hand-over cars for many years. Now, he wants to buy a brand new car with his own money (he is also a starving artist). Let him make decisions for his own good whether it is good or bad. He is frugal in many ways and I do not think he will burn money.
ReplyDeleteCorrection: "hand-over" should be "hand-down".
